ASHLAND, Va.—The Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball team wrapped up their opening weekend tonight as they topped Rutgers-Newark in Crenshaw Gymnasium 92-70. The Jackets hosted their 2013 Tip-Off Classic sponsored by Riesbeck Contracting this weekend where they finished 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets set the early tempo that lasted all 40 minutes. Junior Taylor Huber (Ashland, VA / Utah Valley) led R-MC with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, and a pair of steals. Junior guard Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) had a powerful day with 19 points, 3 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals. She was accompanied by Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) who also tallied 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Senior center Lindsey Sharman (Lynchburg, VA / Brookville) had a team-high 7 rebounds.
Following Game 4 of this weekend's tournament, the 2013 All-Tournament Team was announced with Anderson earning a spot for her efforts and Huber taking home the Most Outstanding Player Award.
In two games, Anderson recorded 37 points, 3 assists, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals. Huber capped the weekend with 43 points, 3 boards, 11 assists, and 3 steals. She was also 8-16 behind the arch (.500).
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) look to continue their success Tuesday November, 19 as they host Mary Washington at 6:00 PM in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
