ALMA, Mich. – The frontcourt duo of Emily DeWaters and Bailey Tuttle combined for 24 points as Albion College secured its first victory of the season over a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival with a 74-63 decision over Alma College.

DeWaters established the tone for the night when she took the opening tip in for a layup. She went on to score the first six points of the game, and Tuttle tacked on a layup as Albion led 8-0 four minutes into the contest.

"Emily had a different mindset," Albion coach Doreen Carden said. "She knows what she's capable of."

Alma missed its first nine shots and scored its first basket 5 ½ minutes into the game. Albion had a 10-2 lead by that time and it scored on its next three possessions to extend the margin to 16-2. Albion held a double-digit lead the rest of the night.

Four Britons scored in double figures. Brett de Bear and Tuttle finished with 13 points apiece, while DeWaters and Caroline Adamczyk chipped in with 11 each. Mikaela Bromley and Olivia Savage contributed nine points each.

"We had a lot of balanced scoring," Carden said. "Our post players gave us a lot of points. We didn't have to depend on our guards."

Alma's Kassidi Adams led all players with 16 points.

Albion, now 5-8 overall and 1-3 against MIAA rivals, returns home Saturday for a 3 o'clock contest against Trine University. It starts a doubleheader with Albion's men's team who will challenge Alma College at 5:30.
