Bridgewater Coasts Past Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Va. – Bridgewater College scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back Wednesday evening as the Eagles coasted to a 94-28 victory over Mary Baldwin College in non-conference women's basketball action.

The loss snapped the Eagles' six-game losing streak as they improved to 3-8 on the season.

Jessi Strom opened the scoring for the Eagles with a 3-pointer and Molly Shelley added 1-of-2 from the foul line to make it 4-0. Cassidy Burkholder knocked down a 3-pointer and Heather Cantrell added a jumper to put the Eagles on top 9-0 with 15:20 left in the opening half.

Bridgewater led 25-10  and then put the game away with a 10-0 run to lead 44-10 with 4:22 left in the half.

Emily Ashcraft hit 1-of-2 foul shots to start the run before Cantrell and Burkholder each went 2-for-2 from the line, making the score 30-10. Holly Morgan sandwiched buckets around a jumper by Cantrell to push the lead to 36-10 before a 3-pointer by Burkholder made the score 39-10. Strom then drained a 3-pointer and Kelsi Bailey added two free throws, giving the Eagles a 44-10 lead.

The Eagles led 56-15 at the break and outscored the Squirrels 38-13 in the second half to finish off 94-28 victory.

All 14 Bridgewater players broke into the scoring column. Burkholder and Morgan led the way with 11 points each.

The Eagles held a 45-32 advantage on the boards with Shelley and Bailey leading the way with seven rebounds apiece.

Shanice Miles led Mary Baldwin with 10 points.
