The New York University women's basketball team upped its record to 11-0 with its 95-58 win at Hunter College on Tuesday, January 7, at the Hunter Sportsplex in Manhattan.

The Violets used a balanced attack in securing the win and tying their best start since the 2008-09 season.

"Offensively we share the ball very well," said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "We have a lot of players who are willing to give up good shots to get great ones and we continue to preach that. We can do a better job sometimes with our shot selection, but we're a work in progress."

Five NYU players scored in double figures, led by Kaitlyn Read's 14 points. She scored the game's first five points as the Violets took an 8-0 lead and never trailed.

Megan Dawe and Lindsey Oldshue each scored 13 points for the Violets, while Amy Harioka had 11 and Emily Rowe added 10.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The Violets shot season-bests from the field (.576, 38-66) and from three-point range (.583, 7-12).

"What we've shown is, some days we have really good offensive games and the other teams will score a little more, and sometimes we're not putting the ball in the basket but we're able to clamp down on defense and I hope that trend continues," said Hall-Gregory.

Riley Wurtz collected a game-high nine rebounds.

Sam Hickey came off the bench to record career highs in points (5) and rebounds (3).

- The last time NYU started the season 11-0, the team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.

"Of course being 11-0 is great but for us it's really a one-game-at-a-time mentallity and I think our team has done a really good job with that," said Hall-Gregory. "I wasn't sure coming into this game what our level of focus would be after a big win against Cabrini and conference play coming up. I think we proved tonight that we have the maturity to be where our feet are."

- Kristen Markoe led the Hawks (5-8) with 15 points.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, January 11, when they host Brandeis University in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both squads.  Tip-off at the Coles Sports Center is set for 2:00pm and will be preceded by the annual Alumni Game at 12:00pm and followed by a men's contest between the two schools at 4:00pm.

"I expect Brandeis to have scouted us well and to know what each player does," said Hall-Gregory. "They are physical on the defense end and will make you earn every point you get. We have to be mentally prepared for a physical game and have that mindset to get ready for UAA play."
