CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (November 16, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to DeSales University, 84-64, in the Morgan Stanley Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the four-team tournament. Senior Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) was named to the all-tournament team for her play in the two contests this weekend.

Stevens (1-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead to begin the matchup in the first 3:14 on five points from sophomore Miranda Ripken (Fallston, Md.) and a two-point basket by classmate Dylan Krause (Atlanta, Ga.) before DeSales (2-0) could get on the board. The Ducks would push their advantage out to 12-3 and remained in control until DeSales took its first lead at 16-15 with 9:55 left in the half.

Ripken finished the game with seven points and six rebounds with three assists, while Krause tied for a team-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor including three from long range.

The Bulldogs stayed ahead over the next 3:14 until freshman Erica Guketlov (Spotswood, N.J.) nailed a three to knot the game up at 26-26. After a layup from DeSales at the 5:49 mark gave the Bulldogs a two-point edge, 28-26, senior Molly Spadaro (Sewell, N.J.) drained a three-pointer to give Stevens its last lead of the contest at 29-28 with 5:26 left in the first half.

Guketlov added five points in the game with a pair of boards and Spadaro led the Ducks with seven rebounds and chipped in seven points.

DeSales pushed its lead to 45-38 at the half and built up a 20-point cushion over the opening 8:43 of the second half, 66-46. The Ducks could never chip into the deficit and found themselves down by as much as 27 points at 77-50 with 5:37 to go.

Benjamin finished the game with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and five rebounds in 25 minutes played. The Stevens bench scored 21 points in the loss and was led by five from Guketlov and freshman Brittany Washington (Iselin, N.J.).

Stevens committed 25 turnovers and shot just 26.9-percent in the second half. DeSales, on the other hand, turned the ball over just 11 times and shot 49.1 % overall, including 12 three-pointers.

The Ducks head back to Pennsylvania on November 20 to take on Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 6 p.m. before their home opener against SUNY New Paltz on the 23rd at 1 p.m.
