St. Mary's City, Md. – Marymount University's women's basketball team opened the New Year with a 59-55 road victory at St. Mary's (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  The Saints improve to 7-4 on the season and remain unbeaten in league play at 3-0.

Katelyn Fischer led the Saints with a game-high 29 points to go with five rebounds, five steals and four assists.  She went 8-for-12 from the field, including 5-for-8 from three-point range and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

Miranda Krott and Delia Ruttum both added eight points in the post while Kievanna Lacey chipped in seven.

A back-and-forth start to the opening half saw five lead changes over the first five minutes before a Fischer three-pointer put the Saints up 9-7 at the 14:30 mark.  Marymount then went on a 12-2 run over the next six minutes, capped by another Fischer trifecta, to force a Seahawks (3-7, 1-3 CAC) timeout and take control of the frame en route to a 34-25 halftime lead.

St. Mary's would open the second half on a 10-run to retake the lead before a Ruttum layup nearly seven minutes into the frame snapped the Saints' drought at put the Blue and White up 36-35.  With the Seahawks scoring on the next possession, Fischer responded by draining a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 MU run to take a 45-37 lead with 8:29 to play.

The Seahawks rallied again down the stretch, chipping away at the Marymount lead until tying things up at 49-49 with 2:05 remaining in the game.  Looking to close things out, Fischer drilled another triple with 96 ticks remaining to break the tie before Lacey converted and old-fashioned three-point play with 40 seconds remaining to put the Saints ahead 55-50.  St. Mary's battled to the end but Fischer and Lacey buckled down the rest of the way and sealed the victory at the free throw line.

Sophie Pruden led the Seahawks with a double-double, scoring 22 points to go with 15 rebounds.

Marymount returns to the hardwood on Wednesday as it hosts fellow undefeated CAC foe and 19th-ranked York (Pa.).  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.marymount.edu/athletics/wBasketball and selecting the "live stats" and "live video" links.
