BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team remains undefeated in the Commonwealth Coast Conference after defeating Western New England University 65-46 Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Hawks improve to 3-0 in the conference and 8-2 overall. Western New England falls to 1-2 in the CCC and 4-6 overall.

Both teams struggled to score in the beginning of the game, with the two squads combining to shoot 2-for-13 over the first four minutes of action. Despite the two sides trading baskets early on, the game remained a low scoring affair. The Hawks held a slim 10-9 advantage eight minutes into the half.

Roger Williams began push the pace in the latter part of the first half, and it paid dividends for the team. RWU was able to build a 14-11 lead with 9:27 left into a 15-point advantage (28-13) with 4:18 to go, thanks to the up-tempo pace. RWU's Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) scored the final six points of the half for the Hawks to give RWU a 20-point lead (38-18) going into the break.

Roger Williams took its largest lead of the game on a three-pointer by Ariola at the 15:55 mark of the season half, giving the Hawks a commanding 49-23 advantage.

Despite the large deficit, the Golden Bears continued to play hard on defense, clamping down and holding the Hawks to six points over a seven-minute stretch. Unfortunately for WNE, the hole proved to be too big to climb out of, as the team only managed to come as close as 17 over the span.

Ariola led all scorers with 16 points along with three assists and two steals. Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) finished with 15 points and three assists as well, while Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) had 13 points and eight rebounds. Shannon Cullen (Walpole, Mass.) stuffed the stat sheet with six points, five boards, four steals, and three blocks.

Western New England's Chelsea Vujs (Berlin, Conn.) notched a double-double, going for 13 points and 11 rebounds along with three steals.  Nicole Daly (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) added five points and five rebounds, while Ali Pessolano (Hampden, Mass.) scored six points off the bench.

Both teams are in action on Tuesday, as Roger Williams heads to Eastern Nazarene while Western New England hosts Gordon.
