Froehlich's 23 points leads Stout to 80-60 win over Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 31, 2013) - UW-Stout's Haley Froehlich (Jr, Mondovi) has to be experiencing her own version of a Rocky Mountain High.

The 5-foot-7 junior guard who had only scored in double-digits twice in her collegiate career scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Blue Devils to an 80-60 win over host Colorado College at the Colorado College New Year's Ball Tuesday.

Froehlich drained 9-of-17 shots from the floor (52.9 percent(, but did much of her damage from beyond the arc, tossing in 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) The 23 points was the most points scored by a Stout individual this season and the five 3-pointers was the most by a Blue Devil this season.

Froehlich scored 15 points in the second half, with 13 points coming in a four-and-a-half minute stretch starting at the midway point of the second half. Froehlich's previous best point total were 12 points, scored against UW-Superior, Dec. 5, 2012, and against UW-Platteville, Feb. 2, 2013.

Stout (4-7) held a 33-29 halftime liead over the winless Tigers (0-9). The teams traded buckets through the first 10 minutes of the second half and Colorado College got out to a 41-40 lead at the 12:43 mark. Brea Boomer's (Jr, Grand Portage, Minn) lay-up at 11:47, followed by buckets by Shelby Sterba (Jr, Tony) and Kyleigh Hebert (So, Spencer) set the stage for Froehlich's show as the Blue Devils assumed control.

Stout forced 26 turnovers and recorded 27 points off those turnovers. Katelynne Folkers (Jr, Fall Creek) had six steals and Boomer had three.

With Froehlich leading the way, Stout finished with four players in double digits. Sami Schoeder (Sr, Durand) and Boomer each tossed in 13 points and Hebert added 12 points. Stout held a 53-46 lead in rebounds, with Sterba yanking down a game-high eight rebounds. Boomer and Schoeder each had seven rebounds. Hebert dished off a career-best seven assists. The 80 total points was Stout's second highest total of the season.

The Tigers got 14 points from Courtney Tyus, 14 points from Katie Waters and 11 points from Danielle Davis.

Stout will play St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, NY, Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m., mountain time, then will return home to host UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m.
