Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Delaware Valley College Aggies survived two late Trinity three-pointers for a 68-66 win over the Trinity College Bantams in women's basketball action in the Land of Magic Classic at the ICI Center on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University this afternoon. Trinity falls to 4-5 on the year, while Delaware Valley moves to 7-3 overall. The Bantams finish their Daytona Beach trip with a 1-1 record, after a 61-53 win over Saint Mary's yesterday afternoon.

Brittany Wood opened the game with a three-pointer and Delaware held Trinity scoreless in the opening 4:26, taking an early 6-0 lead. The three would become a theme for Delaware, as Wood would hit five of them in the game, and finish with 22 points and eight rebounds. Trinity struggled offensively early, but worked their way back, keeping pace with the Aggies, highlighted by strong play from senior Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.), who filled out the stat sheet with 19 points, 12 rebounds and two assists in the game. Midway through the first half, Delaware went on a 9-1 run, but Trinity kept within striking distance with a late run of their own to close the half, bringing the score to a 30-30 tie at the sound of the first buzzer.

Trinity kept the momentum going, opening the second half on a 6-0 run with layups by sophomore Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.), Brickley, and senior Taylor Murtaugh (New York, N.Y.). Delaware continued to keep the pressure on, but with 11:06 remaining in the game, Trinity took their largest lead of the game, a 50-41 advantage, on a layup by first-year Kaitlin Lewis (Demarest, N.J.). Trinity built their lead further, going up 53-41 on a basket by classmate Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.), but Delaware would not let Trinity get comfortable, going on a 7-0 run, to cut the Trinity lead to 53-48.

Delaware continued to chip away at the Trinity lead, capped by back-to-back three-pointers by Wood to give Delaware their first lead of the second half, a 59-58 advantage, with just over five minutes remaining. A layup by Brenna Coll with 1:54 remaining put Delaware up 67-60, before Trinity would give Delaware a scare in the game's final moments.

Senior Abigail Hancock (Casco, Maine) buried a deep three-pointer with the shot clock expiring to bring the score to 67-63, with 1:26 to play. Moments later, Lewis buried a three-pointer from the corner to cut the lead to 67-66 with :36 seconds to play. After a timeout, Delaware ran the clock down before a foul was whistled against Trinity to put Kelsey Kilpatrick on the line. Kilpatrick buried one of two shots, leaving Trinity eight seconds to score a bucket. A last second desperation shot and a put back were both off the mark, as Delaware escaped with the victory.

Senior Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass.) who scored 18 points in yesterday's win over St. Mary's, sat out today's game due to injury. Hanniford is second on the team in scoring with 9.9 points a game, and leads the team in rebounds with 7.7 boards per contest. Trinity limited Coll to 10 points in 25 minutes after Coll found herself in foul trouble. Coll was averaging 18.3 points heading into the game and shooting .514 from the floor. Five Aggies reached double figures in the scoring column.
