BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team played in the Championship Game of the 7th Lehman College Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic, and fell to visiting Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College, 89-62. Freshmen Amely Del Rosario and Genesis Liberato were named to the All-Tournament team for the Lightning.
In the Third Place game, Anderson (Ind.) University dropped SUNY Old Westbury, 71-60.
The Lightning struggled early, not getting on the scoreboard for the first three minutes of the game, until a three-pointer by Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy).
W&J was hitting shots and playing tough defense, and led 14-5, at 13:57. The Presidents then went on an 18-0 run to swell the lead to 27 points.
In the second half, sophomore Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton) had 13 of her team-high 17 points.
Lightbourne also had eight rebounds on the day, leading the team. Del Rosario recorded 14 points, and Liberato (Santo Domingo, D.R./Liceo Ramon Matias Mella) 11.
The Lightning will return to CUNY Athletic Conference play on Friday evening, January 3, hosting Brooklyn College at 5:00 p.m.
