JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Centenary College was hurt by 31 turnovers during its 65-54 non-conference women's basketball loss at New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon.

The Gothic Knights produced 26 points off of those turnovers to improve to 4-6, while Centenary dropped its second-straight game, falling to 4-5 on the season.

The Cyclones were in front for much of the first half, taking a lead as large as six points following a layup by freshman forward Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J./Belvidere) at the 9:13 mark.

The Gothic Knights fought back with an 8-2 spurt to knot the score and Ashley Vazquez gave NJCU its first lead of the game with back-to-back steals and fast-break buckets three minutes later. Jazz Randall's layup as time expired sent NJCU into halftime with a 30-25 edge, despite Centenary shooting 50 percent from the field.

After connecting on just 1-of-12 first-half three-point attempts, New Jersey City began to find its range in the second stanza. Bria Smith grabbed a steal and Jade Medley canned a triple on the ensuing possession to extend the Gothic Knights' lead to double figures four minutes into the half.

Centenary climbed back by scoring seven of the game's next nine points to pull within five. Freshman forward Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) got the spurt started with a free-throw and a basket on the Cyclones' next possession and senior guard Klarissa Perry (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) made the score 41-36 with a layup two minutes later.

However, that is as close as CC would get as NJCU used an 11-4 run capped by Deseree Johnson's three-pointer to regain control of the game. Vazquez extended the Gothic Knights' lead to 16 by collecting her sixth steal and draining a layup with 1:47 remaining.

George paced the Cyclones with 15 points, nine boards and three steals, while Barofski added 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) recorded nine points.

Centenary shot 43 percent (21-49) from the field, compared to 35 percent (23-65) for the Gothic Knights, but allowed NJCU to record 16 steals.

Vazquez and Smith both tallied 14 points, while Kiana Briggs scored a team-high 15. Smith nine rebounds and five steals.

The Cyclones close out their three-game road swing on Dec. 30 against Kean with tip-off slated for 6:00 pm.
