LeTourneau Wins Home Opener Over Hendrix, 75-55

Four members of the LeTourneau University women's basketball scored in double digits to spark the YellowJackets to a 75-55 win over Hendrix on Friday evening in the home opener at Solheim Arena.

Senior Andrea Ashley and senior Ashley Fajardo scored 12 and seniors Julencia Curtis and Alexis Wighaman added 11 and 10, respectively to lead the YellowJackets.

LeTourneau (2-0) forced 20 turnovers which translated into 18 points in the win. With the game tied at 43 and 10:55 to go, Ashley scored six of the next eight points for the YellowJackets to put the home team up, 51-43, with 8:30 to go. The spurt put LETU ahead for the rest of the contest.

YellowJackets' head coach Corey Thomaston was proud of the resiliency shown by his team.  "We are still learning and growing with a lot of new faces. Our desire is to improve daily and I feel that we accomplished that tonight."

Hendrix (1-2) was led by the double double performance of Anna King, who had a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors in the defeat. Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler added 14 points and Jamie Tate grabbed 12 boards.
 
Thomaston was also happy about the balanced scored that his squad exhibited. The YellowJackets spread the scoring wealth among 11-different players. "We showed balance tonight and need to continue to do so in order to reach our maximum potential this year," said Thomaston. LeTourneau outscored Hendrix, 36-4 in points off the bench.
 
The YellowJackets will have a quick turnaround as they will host Rhodes College on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Solheim Arena. Fans are reminded if they bring a canned good, they will receive a free bag of popcorn while supplies last.
