ROCHESTER, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Shannon McGinnis scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Knights to a 48-44 victory over Rochester in the semifinals of the 21st-annual Wendy's College Classic, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.

Geneseo snapped Rochester's 25-game tournament winning streak, after entering the  eight-consecutive Wendy's College Classic Championships.

"I thought we played a little lethargic in the first half and knew we had to play a more up-tempo game in the second," said Geneseo head coach Scott Hemer. "It wasn't perfect, but we did what we had to do to beat a very good Rochester team."

The Knights took a 19-17 lead on a McGinnis layup with 7:04 on the clock, but the Yellowjackets closed the half on a 9-2 run to lead 26-21 after 20 minutes of play.

Trailing, 37-29, at the 11:18 of the second half, back-to-back three pointers by sophomore forward Allison McKenna and McGinnis capped a 10-0 run to give the Knights a 39-37 edge with 7:31 on the clock.

Rochester hit a three pointer to finish a 5-2 spurt to retake a 42-41 lead. The Knights would slowly pull away, starting with a pair of free throws by first-year forward Katie Durand with 2:59 on the clock. Sophomore guard Dana Cohan would connect on a long jumper as the shot clock expired to make it a 45-42 Geneseo lead with 1:25 remaining.

Rochester would pull within one on a short jumper by Blair Landolfi at 1:07, before regaining possession on a missed three-point attempt by McGinnis. On the Yellowjackets' ensuing possession, Ally Zywicki would miss a layup that Geneseo junior forward Katie Petersonwould grab for the Knights.

With 11 seconds on the clock, Cohan would head to the free throw line following a Rochester foul, hitting the first shot, but rattling the second off the back of the rim. Rochester was in position for the rebound, but the ball deflected off a Yellowjacket player and out of bounds to keep possession with the Knights.

McKenna took the following inbound pass from Cohen before heading to the free throw line after being immediately fouled. McKenna sank both attempts to seal the victory and send the Knights to the tournament championship on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
