Mount Saint Vincent Rolls To Third Straight Win

Riverdale, N.Y. – Led by a career-high 19 points from freshman Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team scored a 98-54 home win over visiting Medgar Evers on Tuesday night. Carroll was one of three Dolphins in double-figures on the night.

 

Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the Mount on the board with a jumper just over a half minute into play, before the Dolphins went nearly four minutes before a Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) score with 15:43 to play in the opening half. Both buckets were part of a 14-1 run for the Mount over the first 9:39 of the first half.

 

The Dolphins would get out to a lead as large as 19 points in the opening stanza on a Fraser triple with 3:47 to play in the half before heading to the locker room with a 39-21 lead. The Dolphins forced 28 Medgar Evers turnovers in the period and carried a 15-3 edge in points off of miscues into the break.

 

Mount Saint Vincent canned five three-pointers in the opening period, including two each from Carroll and Fraser, and shot just shy of 40-percent from the field overall. Fraser led all scorers in the opening 20 minutes with 13 points.

 

The Dolphins quickly got their lead out to 20 points on a Fraser lay-in 11 seconds into the second half and never let the Cougars closer than that mark the rest of the night. The advantage ballooned to a game-high 44 points twice in the final 1:05 of the tilt.

 

All 15 players that appeared in the game for Mount Saint Vincent found their way into the scoring column, with Carroll, Fraser and Brittany Lee (Newton, N.J.) netting double-figures. Carroll wrapped up the game 6-for-9 from distance on Tuesday and also added three assists and three steals.

 

Fraser scored in double-figures for the third straight game to open the season, finishing with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting, including a 2-for-2 effort from behind the arc, and secured nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

 

Lee reached double-figures for the second straight game after going 6-for-9 from the floor on her way to 16 points. She added four boards, a pair of assists and three steals. Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) handed out nine assists for the Mount and collected three steals, while Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) swiped five steals.

 

Freshman Daniela Arias (Woodside, N.Y.) finished with seven points, five rebounds and four assists for the Dolphins and Montague tallied eight points and handed out three assists. Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) secured seven rebounds for the Mount.

 

Medgar Evers was led by 19 points from Imani Mason and 11 from Jaquy Lanot. Kimonia Mullings finished with 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Cougars who shot 32.1-percent from the floor on the night.

 

Mount Saint Vincent finished the night shooting 41.8-percent from the floor and forced 39 Cougar turnovers leading to 33 points. Mount Saint Vincent also outscored Medgar Evers 36-28 in the paint and 16-6 on the fast break.

 

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 3-0 overall on the season and to 2-0 at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. After a day off on Wednesday, Mount Saint Vincent will host New Rochelle on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
