Payne Produces Double-Double In Albion Win

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Playing as close to her hometown as she will all season, Darian Payne produced her sixth career double-double – and her third in four games this season – to carry Albion College to an 85-67 victory over Dominican University in non-league women's basketball action.

With a career-high 20 points and a season-high 13 rebounds, it was Payne's one best performances at the collegiate level. She knocked down 8-of-17 shots from the field and was 4-of-7 from the free throw line.

Caroline Adamczyk was 6-of-7 from the field in contributing a career-high 15 points off the bench, and Brett de Bear – Albion's leading scorer on the season – added 11 points.

Albion led throughout as de Bear scored a second-chance basket on Albion's first possession and Payne made the second of two shots from the free throw line. de Bear scored seven of Albion's first eight points as the Britons jumped out to an 8-4 lead.

Adamczyk scored a layup and Miranda Bates hit a pair of shots as Albion extended the margin to double figures, 21-10, midway through the first half. Oreyana Curry produced a pair of field goals and a pair of free throws and Danielle Fraley knocked down a jumper as Albion closed the first half on an 8-4 run to hold a 46-34 halftime lead.

Albion shot 56 percent from the field (15-of-27) from the field in the second half as its lead was never in jeopardy.

Albion, now 2-2 on the season, returns home Saturday for a 3 o'clock non-league game against Rochester College.
