GREENSBORO, N.C. – Morgan King and Jennette Taylor scored 13 points apiece to lead a balanced scoring attack as Guilford raced to a 95-57 non-conference win over the Averett Cougars Tuesday night at Ragan Brown Field House.
The Quakers (4-1) came in undefeated lifetime against the Cougars, winning all 11 previous games. Averett scored first but held just one other lead in the contest. Taylor hit a layup to make it 8-6 Guilford and the Quakers never trailed again.
Two free throws by King at the 13:01 mark made it 20-10 Guilford and the Quakers just poured it on from there. A three as the first half ended by Alex Payne made it 52-25 Guilford at intermission.
Payne was one of four scorers in double digits for the Quakers, as she connected on four shots behind the arc for 12 points. Gabby Oglesby also added 12 for Guilford, as she hit on 6-of-7 shots from the floor.
The Quakers had an excellent night shooting, as they converted 51.3% of their shots, including 7-of-12 from three-point territory.
Guilford also had a strong night defensively, forcing 21 turnovers which it turned into 27 points.
Oneka Jones led Averett (0-2) with a double-double, recording game-highs in both points (15) and rebounds (10).
The Quakers return to ODAC action next time out, as they travel to Lexington, Va. to take on Washington and Lee on Wednesday, December 4th at 7:00 pm.
