Wheaton (Ill.) women's team tops Saint Mary's (Ind.) 74-51

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win on Saturday in a 74-51 win versus Saint Mary's (Ind.) in the Beth Baker Classic. Wheaton improves to 4-1 overall and Saint Mary's falls to 1-3. Wheaton will host UW-Whitewater on November 30 at 6 PM in King Arena.

Freshman Katie McDaniels tallied a "double-double" in Wheaton's win as she scored 26 points, with 11 rebounds. McDaniels added five assists, with three steals to earn All-Tournament honors. Hannah Considine was also an all-tournament selection with 12 points and five rebounds. Freshman Chantal Meacham scored 11 points and senior Maris Hovee added a game-high 13 rebounds with eight points. Moriah Reeves scored seven points and Ellie Zeller added six points with three assists and three steals.

Ariana Paul led Saint Mary's with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Krista Knapke scored eight points, with six rebounds and Shanlynn Bias scored eight points.

Wheaton shot 36.8% (25-68) from the field, with 38.5% (5-13) from three-point range and 73.1% (19-26) at the free throw line. The Belles posted a 32.8% (19-58) field goal percentage, with 33.3% (1-3) from three-point range and 85.7% (12-14) at the free throw line. Wheaton dominated the glass, with a 55-32 advantage in rebounding. Wheaton out-rebounded the Belles 22-7 on the offensive glass.

Wheaton led Saint Mary's 30-27 at halftime. Wheaton out-scored the Belles 11-4 in the first five minutes of the second half to open up a 43-31 lead. Saint Mary's never got closer than an eight point deficit for the remainder of the game, with Wheaton leading by as many as 24 points in a 67-43 lead in the final four minutes of the game.
