Compton, Wallace lead Concordia Texas to season-opening win

AUSTIN, Texas – Behind career highs from Tyler Compton and Casey Wallace, the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team posted a come-from-behind 70-63 victory in its season opener over Schreiner on Friday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.

Compton led all scorers with a career-best 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field. She added four assists, three steals and one rebound in 31 minutes of action.

Wallace chipped in with a career-high 14 points, while Domonique Liddell netted a double-double of 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Liddell also posted a career-best five blocked shots.

The Tornados (1-0) rallied from a nine-point first-half deficit.

Concordia Texas trailed 25-16 with 5:05 left in the opening frame. However, Wallace spearheaded a 20-4 run over the next nine minutes that gave the Tornados a 36-29 advantage with 16:21 left in the contest. The San Antonio native scored eight points during the run and drilled a pair of 3-pointers.

Eleven minutes later, CTX extended its lead to 15 following a layup and 3-pointer from Kia Love.

The Mountaineers (0-1) scored 12 of the final 18 points, but were unable to get any closer than seven points.

Bailey Harris and Lindsey Peterson each netted 20 points apiece to pace Schreiner, while Kelsie Jackson added 11.

The Tornados shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the field and 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from beyond the arc. CTX also outscored the Mountaineers in the paint, 34-18, and registered 20 second-chance points.

Concordia will return to action on Friday, Nov. 22, when it hosts Southwestern in a non-conference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
