Rams Fall in Season Opener Versus Western Connecticut

Galloway, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell, 72-55, in their season opener against Western Connecticut at Richard Stockton College.

The Colonials (1-0) led 15-10 with 8:42 remaining in the first half, before back-to-back 3-pointers by senior forward Sciarra Brandt (Thomaston, Conn.) extended the lead to 11. The Rams (0-1) closed the half with five unanswered points and went into the break trailing 26-20.

After a Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) 3-pointer cut the Farmingdale State deficit to 37-27 with 14:23 left to play, Western Connecticut responded with a 9-0 run to open up a 19-point lead. The Colonials held a double digit lead the remainder of the game en route to the 72-55 victory.

Young played the entire game and recorded 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) had 11 points. Senior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) had a team-high 10 boards and scored nine points for Farmingdale State.

The Colonials were led by Brandt who had a double-double with 23 points and 20 rebounds.

The Rams next will face St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Richard Stockton College.
