Andrade's 20 Points and 11 Boards Lead Anchorwomen Past Westfield State, 73-68

Biddeford, Maine-Sophomore forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Rhode Island College past Westfield State, 73-68, in first round action of the 2013 Ramada Roundball Invitational, hosted by the University of New England at the Harold Alfond Forum on Friday evening.

 

 The Anchorwomen (1-0) advance to face UNE in the title contest tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. The Nor'Easters blew past Daniel Webster, 101-31, in the other first round game.

 

 Rhode Island College found itself trailing by two points, 32-30, at halftime, but outscored the Owls (0-1), 43-36, over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

 

Andrade shot 8-for-12 from the field and swiped three steals. Senior guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) was lethal from downtown, connecting on 5-of-7 from three-point range en route to a 17-point effort. Freshman guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) pitched in with 12 points, while sophomore guard Danielle LeBlanc (Warwick, RI) scored 10 points and dished out eight assists.

 

Westfield State junior guard Jen Ashton (Beverly, MA) led all scorers with 24 points, while classmate center Gabby Felix (Springfield, MA) contributed 16 points and nine boards.

 

Rhode Island College shot 53 percent (29-for-55) from the field, 42 percent (8-for-19) from three-point range and 54 percent (7-for-13) from the free throw line.

 

The Owls shot 43 percent (28-for-65) from the field, 22 percent (2-for-9) from downtown and 63 percent (10-for-16) from the charity stripe.

 

WSU held a slight advantage, 36-33, in rebounding.
