Hope Women's Basketball Tops Bluffton In Season Opener

Senior Anna Kaufmann scored a career-high 14 points to lead the nationally ranked Hope women's basketball team to an 83-59 win vs. Bluffton (Ohio) in Friday's season opener.

The Flying Dutch advanced to play in the championship game of the Chicago Marriott Naperville Tip-off Tournament on Saturday at North Central College. Tipoff is 5 p.m. Central against North Central, a 113-111 overtime winner vs. Ripon (Wis.).

Kaufmann, a guard/forward from Davenport, Iowa (Davenport Central), scored 12 first-half points off the bench to help stake the Flying Dutch to a 49-24 halftime lead. Her previous career-high was eight points in a game. 

In 13 minutes, Kaufmann finished shooting 3-of-4 from the field, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range. She made all seven of her free-throw attempts.

All 15 Hope players saw action in the game, and 13 of them scored. 

Junior forward/center Rebekah Llorens of Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central HS), started and totaled 12 points.

Senior guard Brittany Berry of Grand Rapids (Catholic Central HS) started and netted 11 points in 19 minutes. She shot 4-of-6 from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. 

The Flying Dutch outscored Bluffton (0-1) in the paint by a 42-24 margin and outrebounded them by a 43-33 margin.
