Women's Basketball Tops York

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team held York College to 11 first half points and coasted to victory from there as the Bloodhounds beat the Cardinals 57-38 at the Doghouse on Saturday afternoon.
 
The win improves John Jay to 12-10 (9-4 CUNYAC), while York is now 1-20 (1-11 CUNYAC).
 
Tenacious John Jay defense limited York to 16.5 percent shooting (14-for-85) for the game, including 11.6 percent (5-for-43) in the first half.
 
John Jay was led by Danielle Eagan with 16 points and six rebounds. Tyana Hale recorded a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jamecia Forsythe had a team-high 14 rebounds and three blocks in the win.
 
York College was led by Ishonda McFarland with nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
 
Despite York's low scoring first half, it was the visiting Cardinals who got first run of the contest as York scored three seconds into the game off the tip and opened play with a 6-0 run total. The Cardinals took an 8-3 lead moments alter and led by that score with 17:25 left to play.
 
The Bloodhounds took the lead for good when they went up 9-8 with 9:17 remaining in the first half. In total, after York's 8-3 game opening run, John Jay outscored the Cardinals 20-3 over the final seventeen plus minutes to take a 23-11 halftime lead.
 
York pulled to within as little as eight points of the lead early in the second half. But the Bloodhounds gradually increased their lead en route to victory. John Jay led by as much as 22 in the second half before the final buzzer.
 
John Jay is back in action on Monday for a game at Medgar Evers College at 6 p.m.
