LOS ANGELES — Occidental College women's basketball player Makenzie Brandon (Seattle, Wash.) added two more awards to her trophy case on Thursday.

The two-time SCIAC Player of the Year and Oxy's all-time leading scorer (1,592) was namedd3hoops.com First Team All-West Region and made the WBCA All-American Honorable Mention list.

"This an accomplishment I've been working for and I'm incredibly honored to receive this recognition," Brandon said. "But it is something that I couldn't have done alone. My teammates and coaches have all helped make this happen and I'm so thankful for each and every one of them."

It's the second year in a row that "Mak" has been a First Team All-Region selection and her first postseason All-American honor. She was one of three SCIAC players on the d3hoops.com team and the only SCIAC player on the first team.

"What else is there to say about Mak. She is one of the best player's ever to play in the SCIAC and is as down to earth as any person you'll meet," Occidental coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said.

Mak, a senior 5-foot-11 forward, was second in the West Region in scoring (21.7 points per game) and was eighth overall in the nation. She led the SCIAC with 23.2 ppg, was second in rebounding (9.5), third in steals (2.6) and fifth in assists (3.5). She set the SCIAC and Occidental all-time single-game scoring record with 54 points in a 115-105 win at La Verne.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American team honors just 10 players in the country.

This might not be the end of the awards season for Mak. She's likely to be recognized as a d3hoops.com All-American when the website releases its selections later this month.
