Defiance’s Season Ends in First Round of HCAC Tournament

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Defiance College women's basketball team traveled to Lexington, Ky. to face Manchester University in the first round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday evening. The Jackets were unable to overcome its shooting woes in the first half, as DC was eliminated by a final of 48-32.

The Purple and Gold were done in by its inability to knock down shots in the first stanza. The Jackets scored just six points in the first frame on 3-24 shooting. Despite the cold shooting, Defiance held Manchester to just 22 points in the first 20 minutes of action.

DC picked up the offensive pace in the second half, as Defiance scored 26 points on 10-26 shooting. The Yellow Jackets managed to trim the Spartan lead down to 13 at 35-22 with 10 minutes left in the game but were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

Defiance was led by senior Kim Comden on the evening, as the center notched her sixth double-double of the season and tenth of her career by scoring 10 points and hauling in 13 rebounds in her final game as a Yellow Jacket. The senior also blocked three shots in the performance, finishing her career in fourth place on DC's all-time career block list with 117.

The Yellow Jackets end the season with a winning record of 14-12 and a fourth-place finish in the HCAC regular-season standings with a mark of 11-7 in Jessica Morris's first season at the helm of the program. The Purple and Gold graduate three players from this year's roster in Comden, Rachel Ciminillo and Emma Starks.
