SALEM, Va. – Junior Gabby Oglesby totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds in Guilford College's convincing 76-48 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament quarterfinal win over Randolph-Macon College Thursday in the Salem Civic Center.
The Quakers' 14th win in 15 games sends them to the league semifinals Saturday (2/23) against either Virginia Wesleyan College or Shenandoah University. Guilford (22-4) is seeded second in this year's tourney and the defending ODAC champions.
Guilford led from start to finish as Oglesby scored the Quakers' first six points and assisted on Morgan King's basket that opened a 12-2 Guilford lead less than six minutes into the game. Nine different Quakers had scored by halftime and Guilford led, 38-22, at the intermission. Oglesby had 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the first half.
Halftime failed to slow Guilford's momentum as the Quakers opened the second half on a 20-4 run. Sophomore Logan Hardin netted eight of her career-high 13 points during the spurt, including a layup with 10:47 left that gave Guilford a 58-26 lead. The large margin let Quakers' coach Stephanie Flamini play her reserves for almost half the game and they responded by outscoring their counterparts, 44-28.
Guilford grabbed a season-high 57 rebounds and enjoyed a 21-carom edge over the Yellow Jackets (6-21). King totaled eight points, seven rebounds and four blocks in 21 minutes. Sophomore Alex Payne matched her career-high with nine points on three three-pointers. Classmate Brittany Drew contributed eight points, seven rebounds and four assists. Junior Kayla Adams did not score, but dished out a game-best six assists and did not turn the ball over in 29 minutes.
ODAC Rookie of the Year Katie Anderson led Randolph-Macon with 12 points and six rebounds. Hannah Livermon shook off a hard second-half fall and added 11 points with three three-pointers. The Yellow Jackets shot just 25 percent from the floor.
The tournament continues Saturday (2/23) at 1:00 p.m. when top-seeded Eastern Mennonite University plays fifth-seeded Lynchburg College in the other semifinal.
