Gettysburg, Pa. (Jan. 3, 2013) - Salisbury University (6-6) used a commanding 21-4 run early in the second half to gain control of the game on its way to a 63-56 win over Alvernia University (4-5) Thursday afternoon in the consolation game of the 23rd Annual Days Inn Women's Basketball Tournament at Gettysburg.
Alvernia freshman Stevie Fortna (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) represented the Crusaders on the All-Tournament Team.
The Crusaders built an 8-point lead early in the first half that Salisbury erased with a 12-3 run. Alvernia answered with 9-0 run and held a 6-point lead at the break, 29-23. Alisa Greco (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) both hit 3s during the 9-0 run. Alvernia went 4-of-17 from the arc on the game and Ebersole finished with a team-high 13 points.
Alvernia scored the first four points of the second half to push the lead to 10 points, 33-23, but Salisbury responded with a 10-0 run to erase the deficit and capped off a 21-4 run to take a 44-37 lead with under 12 minutes to play.
The Crusaders cut the gap down to one, 48-47, but an 11-1 Salisbury run sealed the game.
Alvernia returns home to get back to the conference schedule hosting Messiah College for a doubleheader on Saturday.
