Gettysburg, Pa. (Jan. 2, 2013) - Gettysburg College (5-4) used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to open up a 13-point lead en route to a 62-50 win over Alvernia Universit (4-4) Wednesday evening in game one of the 23rd Annual Days Inn Women's Basketball Tournament at Gettysburg.

The Bullets led 43-39 with 11:32 to play following a 3-point play by Alverina freshman Stevie Fortna (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic).  They scored successive layups on fast breaks to double the lead to eight then after a 2-minute scoring drought knocked down a 3 to push the lead to double figures then another jumper for a 52-39 lead.

Fortna stopped the run with a 3--one of four on the night for her--but Gettysburg answered with four straight points and held the lead at 12 or more the rest of the way.

The Bullets used a 7-0 run early in the first half to erase Alvernia's 5-4 lead and never trailed after that.

Gettysburg had three players in double figures.  Alvernia senior Kayla Long (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) finished with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Alvernia will play in the consolation game Thursday at 2:00 against either Gwynedd-Mercy or Salisbury.
