Reading, Pa. (Feb. 12, 2013) – Senior center Kayla Long (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) scored a career-high 22 points and tied the school record with 24 rebounds leading Alvernia University (9-15, 6-11) to a 79-75 overtime win over Hood College (5-19, 3-14) Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

Long entered the final home game of her career with career highs of 16 points and 15 rebounds and easily surpassed both numbers.  She tied recently inducted Hall of Famer Tanisha Giddens who pulled down two dozen boards in a win at then Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in February of 2001.

Long got the chance to tie the rebound record when freshman Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) knocked down a 3 on the Crusaders' final possession to force overtime.

Long scored four of the Crusaders' 10 points in overtime and pulled down two rebounds in the extra frame.

Ebersole finished the night with 16 points hitting 4-of-11 from long range and pushing her single season record for 3s to 92.  Brittany Young (Columbus, N.J./North Burlington) scored 14 points, andKaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) added 13.

Long had already recorded her fourth double-double of the season by halftime scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Crusaders pushed out to a 34-27 lead at the break.

Ebersole hit a pair of 3s midway through the second half as Alvernia opened up a 10-point lead, 53-43 with 11:19 to play.  The lead was still 10 points, 62-52 with 6:05 to go, but Hood put together a 17-4 run to go up three points, 69-66 with 13 seconds left.

Rachel Kessler couldn't convert a second free throw for the Blazers at the 13-second mark and Alvernia pushed the pace off the rebound and got an open look for Ebersole in transition.  The 5-5 freshman knocked it down to tie the game at 69-all and Dyanna Prater's last-second effort caromed off the backboard and off the rim prior to overtime.

Long scored four straight points in overtime to give Alvernia a 74-71 lead and Young scored on a driving layup to make it a two-possession game.  Hood answered with a jumper, but two free throws from Young gave Alvernia a five-point lead with 11 seconds to go.

Alvernia will complete the season Saturday with a trip to Messiah College.
