POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-23, 0-17 SUNYAC) fell to Oswego State (17-7, 11-6 SUNYAC), 70-47 Friday night. Senior guard Katy Briedis led the Bears with 16 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Oswego kicked off the scoring in the first half with a quick bucket by senior forward Meagan Stover. Briedis answered immediately with a 15-foot jump shot to get the Bears on the board at the 19:19 mark. Both teams would jostle for the lead in the next five minutes until a three pointer by Oswego's junior guard Jenn Robbins sparked a 12-2 run with 13 minutes remaining. Sophomore guard Carli Reynold was able to halt the Lakers charge with a pair of free throws at the 9:47 mark. The Bears clawed at the lead and an old fashion three point play by junior forward Jessica Kouzan brought Potsdam within seven. Yet, Oswego continued to play tough defense. The Lakers slowly increased the deficit and a big three-point basket by Robbins as time expired gave Oswego the 37-24 advantage at the break.

Oswego used Robbins three as momentum going into the final half. The Lakers took over offensively, mounting a 15-4 spurt in the opening five minutes of the second stanza. The Bears continued to battle despite the large deficit. However, senior guard Kassie Kleine would connect on a good layup and the free throw to deflate Potsdam and secure the 70-47 victory.

Potsdam shot 29% from the floor and 30% from beyond the arc. Oswego finished shooting 47% from the field and 40% from the three-point line. The Bears held the advantage in rebounds with 44 to the Lakers' 34. Senior forward Adedoyin Akingba was the next highest scorer with eight points and seven rebounds.

Junior forward Paula Egelston led the Lakers with 14 points. Robbins finished with 13 points. Junior guard Lauren Nunziato totaled 11 points. Senior forward Evelyn Josbena added seven points and 12 boards.

The Bears wrap up their season tomorrow when they host SUNY Cortland at 2 p.m.
