Zywicki's Career High 24 Keeps Rochester in UAA Title Hunt

Ally Zywicki scored seven of her career high 24 points in the last three minutes as the University of Rochester battled back for a 72-67 victory over Carnegie Mellon University in women's basketball at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Friday night.
 
Zywicki sank a three-pointer to tie the score at 66-66 with 3:02 to play, then sank four clinching free throws in the last 21 seconds. She added six rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Paige Aleski was the only other double figure scorer for Rochester. She had 11 points which included three three-pointers.
 
Liza Otto, Gabrielle West, and Amanda McHenry scored 14 points apiece for Carnegie Mellon. McHenry hit four of eight outside the arc, all in the second half. Emily Peel had 12 points.  Otto grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
Rochester improved to 18-5 overall, 10-2 in the University Athletic Association. Carnegie Mellon is 13-10, 5-7 UAA. Rochester closes out its regular-season home schedule on Sunday against Case Western Reserve University at 2 pm. The team's three seniors - Jackie Walker, Amy Woods, and Kristyn Wright - will be honored in pre-game ceremonies. Rochester is tied for first place with Emory. Washington, which was one game back entering the weekend, was upended at NYU and is two games back with two left.

The Tartans drew within two points, 17-15, on Peel's layup midway thropugh the first half. Loren Wagner made a layup for Rochester, followed by back-to-back three pointers from Zywicki and Aleski to stretch the lead to 10, 25-15, with 9:16 remaining. CMU closed within three, 29-26, on Amanda McHenry's layup before Aleski scored five points in 23 seconds for a 34-26 lead with 3:04 remaining. Rochester led, 36-32, at the half.

Carnegie trailed for most of the second half before using a 7-0 run to take a 66-63 lead with 4:00 left. Lindsay Poss and Peel made layup and Otto added a jumper. Zywicki's three-pointer tied the score at 66. Peel made one of two from the lien with 1:22 left, putting the Tartans up, 67-66.
 
Zywicki fed Amy Woods for a go-ahead layup with 58 seconds to play, then sank four free throws when CMU could not convert at the other end.
