LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College used a timely 6-0 scoring spurt to take 55-50 lead late in the game Tuesday at Lynchburg College and rode the run to a thrilling 57-53 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the host Hornets. Sophomores Sarah Seipp (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg), Brittany Glasco (Fredericksburg/Massaponax) and Nancy Kelly (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) hit consecutive baskets in a span of 1:28 to give the Marlins the five-point lead that carried Virginia Wesleyan to its second victory over Lynchburg this season. The win improved VWC's overall record to 16-8 and its ODAC mark to 11-4, as the Marlins took over third place alone in the league's regular season standings with only one game remaining.  That will take place on Saturday, Feb. 16 when the Marlins host the Wasps of Emory & Henry College in the regular-season finale starting at 4 p.m.  Lynchburg (15-9, 9-6) used the scoring of Ann Dorris (Clifton, Texas/Logan County), Shannon Allan (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and Lauren Penley (Pfafftown, N.C./Mount Tabor) to expand a 29-28 halftime lead to 35-28 in the early minutes of the second half. The Hornets were able to stay in front most of the second half, opening up a 49-43 lead with 5:21 remaining to be played.  But, momentum started to shift at that point as Seipp nailed a timely triple to cut the Lynchburg lead in half.  The Hornets led 50-49 when Seipp scored on a layup to give VWC the lead at 51-50.  Scores by Glasco and Kelly followed and Virginia Wesleyan owned a 55-50 advantage with 2:01 on the clock. Virginia Wesleyan's defense helped create the turnaround as the Marlins' pressure forced four Lynchburg turnovers and kept the Hornets scoreless for a span of three minutes.  A three-pointer by Shea Kelley (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kendrick) cut the VWC lead to 55-53 with 1:03 on the clock, but Lynchburg was limited to just one shot in the final minute.  Rookie Kelly Jones (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) hit two free throws with nine seconds on the clock to give VWC it's final margin of victory. Seipp finished with 16 points to lead all scoring.  Glasco finished with nine points and sophomore Kerri-Leanne Taylor (Stockport, England/The Hill School, Pa.) hit two triples and tallied eight points overall.  Seipp hit three treys. Virginia Wesleyan out-rebounded Lynchburg 48-40, led by junior Katie Tassa (Bristow/Manassas Osbourn Park) with 11.  Penley pulled down 11 rebounds for Lynchburg. Allan led Lynchburg scoring with 15 points, followed by Penley with 13.  --AMDG--
