RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Ashley Berry scored a season-high 18 points to led a trio of Alverno College players in double figures as the Inferno defeated host Dominican University, 58-41, in a Northern Athletics Conference game Saturday night.
The win was the Inferno's 12th conference victory of the season, which breaks the former record of 11 set in the 2009-10 season.
Berry came off the bench and shot 8-of-13 form the floor and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line, Devon Gorman was 6-of-9 for 16 points while Kristen Speerschneider added 13 points on three 3-pointers to lead the Inferno's offensive attack.
The visiting Inferno (15-9, 12-5 NAC) trailed most of the first half after opening the game with a 5-0 lead, and went into halftime down 27-23. Alverno shot just 27 percent in the first half as the team made just 8-of-30 field-goal attempts.
The second half was a much different story as Alverno connected on 52 percent of its attempts while holding the Stars (1-23, 1-15) to just 16 percent.
A Gorman 3-pointer with 12 minutes to go put the Inferno ahead by double-digits for the first time of the night and the visitors remained in front by at least a 10-point cushion the remainder of the contest.
Dominican outrebounded the Inferno 47-38, but committed 21 turnovers to the Inferno's 10.
Katie Budz and Laura Knieps got 10 points apiece for the Stars and Knieps led all rebounders with 12.
Berry, Speerschneider and Kayla Kennedy each snagged seven rebounds apiece, while Kennedy dished out a game and career-high eight assists.
Alverno remains in a tie for second place in the NAC North Division with Maranatha Baptist after today's results. The Inferno plays its final regular season game at Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. An Alverno win and a Maranatha loss secures a home game for the Inferno in the NAC tournament quarterfinals next Saturday.
