St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team now owns a 2-1 record in overtime games after posting a 94-85 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Frostburg State University Wednesday night. Junior center Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) tallied a game-best 21 points in helping the Seahawks sweep the regular-season series with Frostburg State.

St. Mary's (10-9, 4-5 CAC) outscored the Bobcats 16-7 in the extra period as junior forward Marché Pearson (Baltimore, Md./Laurel) sparked a 7-2 close to the game with back-to-back lay-ups in a 32-second span. The Seahawks were 4-of-6 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free throw line in the final five minutes of the game.

The win now puts St. Mary's in a tie with Salisbury University for fourth in the conference standings as both squads boast a 4-5 mark in league action. Salisbury bested the Seahawks, 78-69, on January 19 but St. Mary's will look to avenge that loss when they travel to the Eastern Shore next Wednesday.

Pruden was 8-of-13 from the field while adding six rebounds and two assists while Pearson finished the night with a career-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and five rebounds plus three steals. Senior guard Jasmine Jones (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) contributed a season-best 18 points on 10-of-12 shooting at the line while fellow classmate Joanna Murray (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) notched 15.

Forwards Myeisha Wallace (West River, Md./Southern Senior) and Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) collected nine and seven rebounds, respectively, to help St. Mary's minimize the Bobcats' control of the boards.

The Seahawks dominated much of the first half, sporting a double-digit margin on nine different occasions throughout the first 20 minutes. Jones converted a pair of free throws to afford St. Mary's its biggest lead of the game up 12, 34-22 with 5:46 left. Frostburg would close out the half on a 10-3 run to only be down 37-32 at halftime.

Murray and Jones paced the Seahawks at halftime with nine and seven points, respectively, while senior guard Stephanie Straka (Jerome, Pa./Conemaugh Township) led all scorers with 11. The Bobcats (6-16, 2-7 CAC) staked a 25-17 rebounding in the first half en route to a 48-40 advantage for the game.

Frostburg State (6-16, 2-7 CAC) outscored the hosts 46-41 in the second half behind junior guard Elaina Hummel's (Huntingdon, Pa./South Huntingdon) 14 points.  Sophomore guard Ronje' James (Baltimore City, Md./Pikesville) posted FSU's biggest lead of 78-76 with 18 seconds left to play in regulation before Pruden connected on a layup with four ticks on the clock off an assist by Wallace to force overtime.

Hummel recorded a double-double on 19 points and game-best 12 rebounds while Straka picked up 19 points as well plus seven assists.

The Seahawks will be back in action this Saturday, February 9 when St. Mary's travels to Arlington, Virginia to take on Marymount (Va.) University in another conference tilt at 2:00 pm.
