Ring's fast start sets tone in Tommies' home win

Senior guard Kellie Ring scored a career-high 22 points, including 6-of-6 in first-half treys, as the host Tommies (17-5 overall, 15-4 MIAC) won their fourth in a row and moved within one game of MIAC co-leaders Concordia and St. Ben's with a 68-54 win over Gustavus (13-9, 12-7) Wednesday night in MIAC women's basketball at Schoenecker Arena.

Jenna Dockter added 15 points and Taylor Young chipped in 11 points, four assists and four blocks. 

In improving to 10-1 at home this season, St. Thomas hit eight 3-pointers en route to a 43-28 halftime lead. They helped limit the Gusties to 31 percent shooting in the second half.

Gustavus, which outrebounded the Toms 39-28, got 14 points apiece from Kelsey Florian and Karina Schroeder.

The Tommies are tied with St. Mary's for third place, one behind St. Ben's and Concordia. St. Thomas is home Saturday to play St. Ben's (1:05 p.m.) in a game televised live on Channel 45.
