OSWEGO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team (19-2, 13-1 SUNYAC) completed the season sweep of SUNY Oswego (14-7, 8-6 SUNYAC) on Tuesday with a 75-66 victory in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The win ties the New Paltz program record for most victories in a season with 19.

There was only one lead change in the entire game on Tuesday. At the 11:16 mark, freshman forward Michelle Valle (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science/Mathematics) sank a layup to put the Hawks up 20-18 after trailing by as much as seven. Junior guard Alyssa Gratien (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) followed with three-pointers on the next three Hawk possessions, giving the Hawks an eight-point lead. The Lakers battled back, eventually cutting the deficit to two points before heading into the locker room.

The Hawks pushed their lead all the way to 10 with 12:26 remaining in the game after a layup and continuation free throw by senior guard Maliqua Fisher (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon). The Lakers rallied back once again, pulling back within two on Kari Kipper's layup with 4:34 left on the clock, but the Hawks pushed right back, extending their lead back to nine just two minutes later. Gratien was successful on 6-of-8 free throw attempts in the waning minutes of the game to hold the lead for New Paltz.

Senior forward Alex McCullough (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) led the Hawks, along with Gratien, with 18 points in the win. She also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Fisher added 16 points, while Valle scored 10 and grabbed seven boards.

Both teams shot well from the field, as the Lakers held a slight edge with a 44.6 field goal percentage (25-of-56) to the Hawks' 43.1 percent (25-of-58). The results were similar from the distance, as the Lakers were 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) from three-point range compared to the Hawks' 7-of-17 (41.2 percent). New Paltz held the advantage from the charity stripe, making 18-of-30 attempts (60 percent) to Oswego's 8-of-15 (53.3 percent).

The Hawks have won four-straight SUNYAC games, and will look to make it five on Friday, Feb. 8, when they host Buffalo State at the Hawk Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
