Cortland Women Move Into Third-Place SUNYAC Tie After 58-44 Win vs. Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland outscored Oneonta 16-4 over the game's final eight minutes to earn a 58-44 victory over the visiting Red Dragons and move into a tie for third place in the SUNYAC standings. Cortland is now 8-6 in the conference, tied with Oswego, and improved to 10-10 overall.

Junior Megan Touhey (Maine/Maine-Endwell) led Cortland with 17 points. She made 4-of-6 three-pointers and added four rebounds and three steals. Freshman Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) recorded 12 points and five steals and sophomore Brittany Rando (Owego/Owego Free Academy) finished with 10 points.

Also for Cortland, sophomore Brooke DeMarco (Grand Island) led the team with eight rebounds and junior Grace Williamson (Olean) had six points and six rebounds. Williamson, sophomore Erin Wolstenholme (Oneonta) and sophomore Lindsey Minor (Wheatley Heights/St. John the Baptist) shared the team lead with three assists each.

Oneonta (10-11, 7-7 SUNYAC) was led by Kristin Pappalardo's 13 points on 4-of-9 three-point shooting. Grace Schilling scored 10 points and handed out three assists.

Cortland led 27-25 at halftime as Touhey scored 11 of her points in the opening period. Oneonta started the second half on an 8-2 run, including four Schilling free throws, and led 33-29 with 16 minutes left.

Cortland scored 11 straight points, capped by a Touhey three-pointer, over the next six-plus minutes to take a 40-33 lead. Oneonta answered with a Pappalardo trey and a Alyshia Crawford layup and was back within two at 40-38 with 8:32 left.

Caitlin Cariseo's layup with 8:02 remaining kept Oneonta within two at 42-40, but the Red Dragons were unable to score over the next four minutes. Cortland scored seven points in that span with a Williamson layup, a Rando three-pointer and a Cohen jumper and grabbed a 49-40 lead with 4:04 left. Oneonta got back to within seven points twice, but Cortland finished the game with a 7-0 run over the final 2:33.

Cortland will host Oswego on Friday at 6 p.m.
