Concordia holds MIAC lead

Upset-minded Macalester led MIAC-leading Concordia by a couple points after a closely-contested opening period, but the Cobbers came out strong in the second half and went on to beat the Scots 66-45 at the Leonard Center.  The Cobbers, winners of seven in a row, move to 16-4 overall and 15-2 in the MIAC.  The Scots drop to 4-16 on the season, 3-14 in the MIAC.

 

The Scots had a 16-11 turnover margin and out-scored their guests 15-11 in points off turnovers.  They could not, however, overtime a 23% shooting mark on the day.  In the game's first half, there were six ties and 10 lead changes.

 

Kyanna Jones (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Osseo) led the way for Mac, finishing with 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.  Veronika Jakubovie (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) just missed out on a double-double, contributing eight points and 12 rebounds.  Erin Murray (Fy., Sparta, Wis.) scored nine points and Carmen Whitehead (Jr., Greeley, Colo. / West) added seven.

 

Concordia was led by Alley Fisher with 15 points.  Emily Thesing produced 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.  Alexandra Lippert had 12 points and 11 boards for a double-double.

 

The Scots play Monday (Feb. 4) at Gustavus Adolphus.
