BALTIMORE – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team saw its seven-game winning streak come to a halt as Johns Hopkins University held the visiting Bullets to their worst shooting performance of the season in a 47-40 decision inside Goldfarb Gym Thursday night.

Gettysburg (14-6, 11-4 CC) maintained its hold on second place in the Centennial Conference standings despite the loss, while Johns Hopkins (12-9, 10-6 CC) remained two games behind the Bullets in the loss column in third place.

Gettysburg shot a season-low 24.3 percent (17-of-70) from the floor. The Bullets were also off target at the free-throw line, canning just 3-of-13 attempts.

Johns Hopkins trailed for only 29 seconds in the entire contest. The Blue Jays turned in the game's first bucket and led by as many as six (19-13) in the opening stanza. The hosts would carry a two-point lead into the break.

In the final period, sophomore Jenna Swope (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) pulled Gettysburg into a tie at 26 with a lay-up less than two minutes in. Johns Hopkins would retake the lead 20 seconds later and it would be nearly three minutes before either team found the bottom of the net again.  That bucket was turned in by junior Alyssa Isler (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) who nailed a three-pointer to give the visitors a 29-28 edge with 15:29 to play.

Liz Tommasi came right back with a lay-up to give the Blue Jays the lead for the final time. Following Isler's three-pointer, Gettysburg would go without another field goal until freshman Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) knocked down a jumper at 6:54.

Johns Hopkins would build its lead to 10 (42-32) before a three-pointer by Isler and a jumper by junior Caroline Murphy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) sliced the deficit in half with 1:23 to play. A free throw by Swope would cut the margin to 42-38 with just over one minute remaining.

Gettysburg would get no closer, going 1-of-5 from the floor over the final 43 seconds, while the hosts helped their cause with five made free throws.

Swope and Murphy each posted eight points to lead Gettysburg. Swope also added nine rebounds, while freshman Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) led the Bullets with 11 caroms. Porter tallied six points, six rebounds, and four steals.

Alex Vassila led Johns Hopkins with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Tommasi finished with a dozen points and three steals, while Sarah Higbee grabbed 10 rebounds.

Gettysburg returns to home to face Ursinus College on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m.
