ANNVILLE, Pa.--Dyanna Prater of the Hood College women's basketball team (5-15, 3-10 Commonwealth) netted a season- and game-high 23 points but it was not enough as the Blazers bowed to nationally ranked Lebanon Valley College (17-3, 11-2 Commonwealth), 77-53, Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference action.
Prater poured in 20+ points for the seventh time in a Blazer uniform on the night and eclipsed her previous season-high of 22 points set against Waynesburg University on Dec. 29. She knocked down eight field goals, including a pair of triples, and went 5-of-13 from the foul line to lead all scorers. Shakara Head also reached double figures with 11 points and registered her fourth collegiate double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Hood continues to top the Commonwealth charts in three-point field goal percentage defense and held the Dutchmen without a long-range bucket on this night (0-for-6). However, two Blazers fouled out and, as a team, Hood was whistled for 26 fouls, which translated into 31 points at the charity stripe for LVC.
Hood kept it close for much of the first half and remained within striking distance, trailing by just five with 5:40 to play (24-19). But the Dutchmen closed the stanza on a 14-2 run and led 38-21 at the break. The Blazers could not whittle the deficit below double digits the remainder of the game.
Briana Lee chipped in five points off the bench while Rachel Kessler added four. Maggie Payne and Emily Maerz buried one three-pointer apiece off the bench. Sarah Marcello connected on 2-of-3 from the foul line and Rachel Wiley hauled in eight rebounds and handed out a pair of assists for Hood.
Four LVC starters reached double digits, led by Caitlin Bach's 17. The second-place Dutchmen lead the Commonwealth in rebounding margin and outboarded Hood by 10 to help their cause.
Hood has another road game slated for Saturday when the Blazers visit Widener University for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth matchup. The Pride are tied with LVC for second place in the league.
