NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team could not survive the hot shooting of John Jay College, falling to the host Bloodhounds, 75-57.

John Jay (11-9, 8-3 CUNYAC) shot better than 40% on the evening, making 29 field goals on 72 attempts. Additionally, John Jay out-rebounded the Lightning (3-17, 3-8 CUNYAC), 58-40.

Lehman played well in the first half, rallying to take the lead with just 6:37 remaining, when freshman guard Luisayra Madrigal (Bronx, N.Y./Msgr. Scanlan) made a free throw. That was part of a 9-0 run for the Lightning, who took a six point lead at 23-17, with 6:02 on the clock. From there, the Bloodhounds heated up, going on a 17-2 run for the rest of the half, building a 34-25 lead at halftime.

As the second half started, Lehman would keep the game close, trailing 38-34, after a pair of Keonti Powell (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) free throws. John Jay would heat up again, going on a 12-0 run to salt the game away.

John Jay managed to keep freshman sharpshooter Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) in check, as the back-to-back CUNYAC/Con Edison Rookie of the Week managed just 14 points. Powell led Lehman with 25 points, as senior Jasmin Castro-Lopez (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy) added 11. Powell added another double-double to her credit, grabbing 10 caroms as well. Madrigal grabbed nine rebounds.

The Lightning will look to rebound on Friday, February 1, when the Blue and Gold host Brooklyn College at 5:00 p.m.
