Corey Records Double-Double In No. 10 Thomas More's 87-58 Win Over Waynesburg

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Junior forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to record a double-double today (Saturday, January 28, 2013) as the 10th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated Waynesburg University, 87-58, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 18-1 overall and 12-0 in the PAC and with the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-10 overall and 8-4 in the PAC.

Waynesburg scored the first basket of the game at the 19:04 mark of the first half and then Thomas More scored the next 21 points in the game to take a 21-2 lead when senior Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made a lay-up with 14:12 to play in the half.  Waynesburg used a 4-3 run to cut the lead to 24-6 when with 13:24 to play in the game when Brittany Spencer made two free-throws.  The Saints answered with a 14-4 run to extend the lead to 38-10 when senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up with 9:21 to play in the first half.  The Yellow Jackets responded with a 9-5 run capped by a Rebecca Kerr lay-up to cut the lead to 43-19 with 5:48 to play in the opening half.  Thomas More came right back with a 7-3 run to increase the lead to 50-22 with 2:27 to play in the half when junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made two free-throws.  Waynesburg closed out the half on a 4-0 run to cut the Saints' lead to 50-26 at halftime.

In the first half, the Saints shot 48.6 percent (17-of-35) from the field, including 53.8 percent (seven-of-13) from behind the three-point arc.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 9-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 59-28 with 17:01 to play in the game when Long made two free-throws.  Waynesburg answered with a 19-8 run to cut the lead to 67-47 when Jessi Drayer made a lay-up with 8:11 to play in the game.  That would be as close as Waynesburg would come as the Saints closed out the game on a 20-11 run for the 87-58 victory.

Joining Corey in double-figure scoring was Long with a game-high 17 points and Brunsman with 10 points.  Three Saints just missed double-figures as junior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County), Beasley and freshman forward Alexa Santamaria (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) each finished with nine points.  Beasley led the team in assists with seven, while Long added five.

The Saints remain at home on Wednesday (January 30) when they host Geneva College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
