Fast Start Propels Buffalo State Past Potsdam, 68-49

BUFFALO, NY— Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Buffalo State (10-8/6-5) led wire-to-wire, defeating visiting Potsdam (1-17/0-11), 68-49, in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Smiley hit 10 of 15 from the field to pace the Bengals' offense.  Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) netted 18 points, going 7 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range.  Shay Jackson (Syracuse/Henninger) added 10 points, and Kelly Kell (Port Ewen/Kingston) had four points and six assists.

Buffalo State took control early, opening a 14-2 advantage out of the gates, and led 34-20 at halftime.  The Bengals continued to pull away in the second frame, leading by as many as 28 before coasting to the win. 

Buffalo State outscored Potsdam 46-26 in the paint and shot 48-percent for the game.  The Bears connected on just 33-percent of their field goal attempts and were just 1 of 15 from behind the arc.  Buffalo State also owned a 43-27 rebounding advantage.

Buffalo State will host another SUNYAC game next Friday when Oswego visits the Sports Arena for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
