The 2nd ranked Knights extended their win streak to 16 games with their 77-55 win over Alma on Saturday.

The Knights steadily established a big lead six minutes into the game when a Logan Marsh three put Calvin up 17-5. The Scots would then go on a 7-2 run, which narrowed the lead to 7.

Good defense by the Scots made it hard for the Knights to pull away, but Alma was not able to stop the post presence of seniors Carissa Verkaik and Ally Wolffis.

Seven minutes into the second half the Knights would extend their lead to 20 due to a Kelsey Irwin three. That lead would stay intact for the rest of the game, as the Calvin defense was able to force 25 turnovers in the game.

Carissa Verkaik ended up with 20 points on 6-12 shooting, 7 total rebounds and 6 blocks.  Carissa needed only two blocks in the game today to become the all-time leader for Calvin in blocked shots and she did that in style with 6 extending her career running total to 404. She passed Sally Huyser who had a career total of 399 blocked shots. Senior Ally Wolffis also had a nice game with 14 points making 6-8 field goals.  Sophomore Kayla Engelhard added 10 points while senior Logan Marsh had nine points.

"It was a good win," said Calvin women's basketball coach John Ross. "I thought Alma played very inspired and made things tough on us, particularly in the first half. We have to make sure we match the intensity of our opponent right from the outset."

Calvin improves to 17-1 overall and 10-0 in the MIAA.
