JAMAICA, NY— Sophomore Stayce Kay Muirhead pulled down a career-high 25 rebounds, while also scoring 12 points, blocking two shots and forcing five steals but her effort would be wasted as the York College women's basketball team lost to the College of New Rochelle, 77-58, in a non-conference tilt on Friday evening at the York College Gymnasium.
Muirhead surpassed her previous career-high of 24, which was set two games prior. She currently ranks second in the CUNYAC in rebounds per game (11.9). She also ranked 22nd in NCAA Division III in rebounds per game and will surely move up that list after next week's statistical update.
The game was back-and-forth in the first half with seven lead changes. The largest lead of the half was just four points by York. But things turned for the worse in the second half. The Cardinals were outscored 45-28 and committed 17 turnovers. Those turnovers were converted into 25 second-half points.
York also had no answer for New Rochelle's Jasmine Brandon, who led all scorers with 29 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds. Alyssa Pechin finished with 24 points, five assists and eight steals.
The Cardinals also got 15 points, four assists and three steals from Angelika Ruggiano and ten points from both Shanelle Baldwin and Danielle Dunn.
The loss drops York's record to 1-17, while New Rochelle improves to 7-10. The Cardinals will host Brooklyn College on Monday at 6:00 p.m. Admission to the game is free!
