BRONX, N.Y. – The duo of Keonti Powell and Jennifer Navarro each scored 20 points, but it was not enough as the Lehman College women's basketball team fell to visiting Hunter College, 56-50, on Friday night.
In Lehman's previous game, Powell (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) each scored over 30 points. Powell had 37 and Navarro 33 against Medgar Evers on Wednesday evening.
Tonight, Hunter had built a seven point lead early in the second half, before the Lightning rallied. Lehman recaptured the lead at 13:16, when Navarro made one of her four three pointers, putting Lehman ahead, 32-30. The lead would teeter back and forth, before the Hawks took the lead for good at the 5:04 mark. A lack of depth hurt Lehman, as three different players fouled out, allowing the Hawks to capitalize.
On the night, Lehman shot 27.6% from the field, and 75% from the line. Hunter shot 29% from the field, but struggled mightily from the line, making only 15 of 32 free throws (46.9%).
Lehman will take the weekend off, and will travel to face John Jay on Monday, January 28, at 5:00 p.m.
