GORHAM, Maine  – Senior guard Nicole Garland (Portland, Maine/Deering) scored a game-high 19 points on 5-for-6 shooting from three-point range to lead the 13th-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 91-52 win over the Plymouth State University Panthers in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Tuesday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine.

With the win, Southern Maine remains undefeated at 18-0 overall and 8-0 in the Little East.  Suffering its 15th consecutive loss, Plymouth State drops to 1-16 overall and remained winless in the Little East at 0-8.

The Huskies led wire-to-wire forcing Plymouth State in three consecutive turnovers to open the game while connecting on three-of-three buckets in the paint for a quick 6-0 lead with 18:19 to play.  Sophomore forward Rebecca Knight (Alfred, Maine/McAuley) scored the Huskies first two baskets, while senior forward Jordan Grant (Concord, N.H.) notched the third.  After a miss from the Panthers on their fourth possession, the Huskies made it 9-0 with 17:45 to play after Garland sank the first of her five three-pointers of the game.

Plymouth State made it a six point game, 11-5, with 16:09 on the clock on a three from sophomore Tiffany Lewis (Hillsboro, N.H./Hillsboro-Deering), but the Huskies were never threatened quickly scoring the next eight points unanswered for a 19-5 lead five minutes into the game and taking a commanding 47-28 lead at the break.

Southern Maine continued its hot-shooting and surged to a 68-35 lead with a 21-7 run to open the first five minutes of the second half. Garland scored eight of her 19 points in the run as USM led by as many as 42 points late in the game. 

Along with her 19 points, Garland finished with a game-high six assists, one block and three steals to lead Southern Maine.  Grant added 15 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Knight chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

Junior guard Krystin Corliss (Barnstead, N.H./Merrimack Valley) led the Panthers with 16 points.  Freshman guard Taylor Perry (Simsbury, Conn.) added 13 points and three assists on 4-for-5 shooting and junior guard Meghan Faretra (Bow, N.H./Tilton School) tossed in 10 points.

Southern Maine finished the game shooting 59.0 percent (36-for-61) from the field and 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from three-point range.  The Huskies were an outstanding 63.0 percent (17-for-27) from the floor in the second half.  Plymouth State shot 37.3 percent (19-for-51) and made 23 turnovers. 

Southern Maine travels to Western Connecticut on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) in Little East Conference action.  Plymouth State travels to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) also for a LEC contest.
