Anchorwomen Rack Up 38-Point Win at Plymouth State

Plymouth, N.H.-Freshman forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Rhode Island College rolled to a 69-31 victory over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference women's basketball action played at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

 

Junior forward Cara Paladino (Arlington, MA) added 12 points and seven boards for the Anchorwomen, and junior guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) contributed 11 points.  RIC improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the Little East. PSU drops to 1-15 overall and 0-7 in league action.

 

Junior Krystin Corliss (Loudon, NH) led PSU with 13 points and freshman Bry Bennett (Lancaster, NH) added eight points and six rebounds off the bench.

 

The Anchorwomen used a stifling defense in the first half, jumping out to an 11-0 lead while holding PSU off the scoreboard for the first six minutes. Despite the slow start, PSU was down only 11-4 midway through the frame, but RIC rattled off 11 more unanswered points to open up a 22-4 margin. 

 

The visitors went on to lead 38-9 at the break as PSU managed to make just 2-of-22 shots from the field in the first half while RIC converted 57 percent (15-of-26).

 

Plymouth State did not give up in the second half and hung tough against the big deficit. The Panthers were outscored by their opponents by just one point (17-16) in the first 14 minutes after the intermission but couldn't dig out of the first-half hole.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Jan. 22 (5:30 p.m.).
