Rochester Rallies Past Carnegie Women in OT

PITTSBURGH, PA – Four players contributed to a 10-0 run over two minutes in overtime as the University of Rochester defeated Carnegie Mellon, 67-60, in a women's basketball victory on Friday evening.

Ally Zywicki and Jackie Walker hit three-pointers in the extra session. Loren Wagner made a layup and Breanna Madrazo sank both ends of a one-and-one. The spurt gave Rochester a 65-58 lead with less than 30 seconds left, and Carnegie never got closer than five.

Walker led Rochester with 14 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Madrazo scored 12. Walker had nine points and five steals. Danielle McNabb grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out five assists.

Jacqui Shaw scored a career high 31 points for Carnegie Mellon. Lindsay Poss had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Led by Wagner and McNabb, Rochester held a 50-47 advantage on the glass. It was the first time this season Carnegie Mellon was out-rebounded.

Rochester improved to 3-1 in the University Athletic Association, 11-4 overall. The Yellowjackets remained in a tie for first place in the UAA standings. Carnegie Mellon is 2-2 in the UAA, 10-5 overall. When the evening began, five UAA teams were tied for first place at 2-1. Washington, Emory, and Rochester are all now 3-1. 

A layup by Wagner ignited an 18-3 run over the last 10:16 of the first half and gave Rochester a 34-15 lead at halftime. The Yellowjackets were still ahead by 17, 45-28, after Katie Weiner made a layup with 12:45 left in the game. 

Carnegie Mellon went on a 16-0 tear over the next five minutes and pulled within 45-44 on a jumper by Chandler Caulfield. Two jumpshots by Shaw pushed the Tartans in front, 50-48, with 4:57 left. It was CMU's first lead since the opening minute of the game.

Walker sank a jumper from the left of the key with 33 seconds left in regulation to put Rochester up, 55-54. Shaw made the front end of two shots, tying the score 11 seconds later. The Tartans had a chance to win with less than two seconds to play, but missed the front end of a one-and-one.
