Smith sharp as Tommies stay in MIAC lead

Sophomore center Anna Smith had 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals and the No. 12-ranked Tommies shot 56 percent from the floor in Wednesday night's 73-44 win at Macalester in MIAC women's basketball play.

St. Thomas (12-2 overall, 10-1 MIAC) helped forced 24 Mac turnovers and completed a season sweep of the Scots. Coach Ruth Sinn's team remained in a share of the confernece lead with Gustavus at 10-1, one game ahead of third-place Concordia.

Kellie Ring had six steals for the Toms, who had early second-half runs of 7-0 and 10-2 to build the lead past 20 points.

St. Thomas is home Saturday to face St. Catherine (1 p.m.).
