La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 69-56 victory over UW-Stout Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, who snapped a three-game losing streak, improve to 8-9 overall and 2-6 in the WIAC while the Blue Devils fall to 8-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference. UW-L earned its sixth straight win over UW-Stout.
UW-L raced out to a 15-1 lead with 11:43 left in the first half as UW-Stout missed its first nine shots from the field and had nine turnovers. Briana Radowicz had seven points and Trisha Van Dusseldorp scored five in the opening run for UW-L.
The Blue Devils recorded their first field goal of the contest, a three-pointer from Haley Froehlich, with 10:12 remaining in the half. UW-Stout went on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 18-11 with 5:52 remaining.
UW-L later led 24-15 with 2:35 left, but UW-Stout used a 8-1 run to end the half and trailed 25-23.
UW-Stout took its first lead since 1-0 with 18:03 left in the game on Brea Boomer's field goal for a 26-25 advantage. UW-L then went on a 14-4 run to lead 39-30 with 14:48 remaining. The Eagles led 42-32, but the Blue Devils went on a 10-0 run to force a tie with 11:36 left.
The Eagles later led 50-47 with 8:26 remaining when they went on a 14-1 run to take a 64-48 with 5:04 left. Van Dusseldorp scored 10 points in the run, including hitting 3 three-point field goals. The Blue Devils could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
Van Dusseldorp led UW-L with a career-high 21 points, going four-of-seven from three-point range. Radowicz had 18 points, six steals, five rebounds and five assists. Lexi Masiak tied her career-high with 10 points while recording a career-high eight rebounds.
UW-L shot 38.0% from the field, including 38.9% (seven-of-18) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 64.9% (24-of-37) at the free throw line.
Boomer and Kayla Windt led UW-Stout with 13 points while Katelynne Folkers had 10 points. Shelby Sterba finished with nine points and a game-high nine rebounds.
UW-Stout shot 29.1% from the field, including 16.7% (two-of-12) from three-point range. The Blue Devils shot 61.1% (22-of-36) at the line.
The teams combined for 57 turnovers, including 31 by UW-Stout and 26 by UW-L. A total of 50 fouls were called in the contest as the teams combined to finish 46-of-73 (63.0%) at the free throw line.
